REVIEWS/Seven Mary Three 07/02/04

Any fanatic of mainstream alternative rock has heard of this band. They play that famous song "Cumbersome." Few know that they have 5 albums out including a new one that they are promoting. So they have the "not too famous" thing going for them. They even are letting fans in free to some shows with receipts from Best Buy for their newest album.

The band was playing an outdoor show at a few day Fourth of July celebration in a city of about 50,000 people. The majority of the people there were drinking and had been drinking, so they were playing for a crowd of a few thousand drunk people, but they seemed up to the task.

They were 4 very ordinary looking guys, but that didn't mean that they wouldn't put on an excellent show. The kind of music that they played isn't much like the bands you hear on the radio often and it was a little bit refreshing. They were scheduled to play a set that would last an hour and a half, and they pulled it off. It didn't seem that long while watching these guys.

As far as stage presence goes it wasn't the best I had seen but it wasn't bad either. As stated before they were playing for a crowd of mostly drunk people, so anything that they said would warrant a huge response from the crowd. They didn't seem uncomfortable by any means up on stage, but the movement was pretty minor.

They made sure to save the song that they knew that everyone would know until last. Of course, that song is "Cumbersome" and they even made a comment that it would be the last one. Much to the crowd's surprise, they then did a cover of "Keep on Rocking In The Free World."

I would certainly recommend seeing these guys, and I'll probably do so again. You'll most likely be surprised at the show they put on.
