REVIEWS/Empty Mouths Tour 03/03/05

This venue is primarily a Billiards place, so there are pool tables everywhere, and a make shift stage that moves with every beat. It automatically makes for an interesting sight. The Empty Mouths Tour is benefiting the homeless, so if it comes to your town, check it out. The line up will be changing throughout the tour, so check the tour website for information.

All three of the bands exuded tons of energy on stage, and all were great performers. The first band to hit the stage was Stole Your Woman. There were not many people in the venue at all, so it did not help that most of them were still playing pool when this band started playing. Then again, most of the people were probably along with the tour. Their music is pop-punk, and they sound just as great live as they do on their cd. They brought some funny elements to it, along with bassist Joey’s grandmother rocking out. They played about six songs.

Sloppy Meateaters took me by surprise. First, that were from the “Duuuuuurrrrrty South” (Georgia), and secondly, that I had never heard of this band till recently. I suppose I was expecting a totally punk band, knowing that Eight Fingers Down is punk, and Stole Your Woman is pop-punk. Sloppy Meateaters’ music has more of a rockin’ alternative vibe to it. Their lead singer Josh came around asking for people to get closer to the stage right before their set started. The place was pretty empty still and the people who were there were hanging in the back, so this brought people up closer. Their set seemed a tad longer than Stole Your Woman, but that is to be expected. They were really good, and by ‘really good’ I mean, they rocked the hell out of that stage considering the venue was practically empty.

Eight Fingers Down took the stage last. Straight up non-stop punk rock. Their force only lightened a tad at the end for their cover of “Dust In The Wind” (originally done by Kansas). It created for a good crowd sing-a-long song, which the crowd (oh hell, let’s just say the 5 people plus their tour-mates who were there) chose for the last song. Other than that cover, I also enjoyed their performance of “A Feeling, A Word, A Curse.” This band also rocked the hell out of the meager venue.
