Something Unlike Human
This is the second time that I've seen this local band. The last time I saw
them I got more of a rock vibe from them, however, for this show they decided to
try to come across as hardcore punks with a flag that had "Fuck Bush" spray
painted on it. Either way, I was unimpressed with the show that they put on.
The music seemed to lack backbone and was very repetitive. If you wanted to
go to a show and just mosh your brains out and ignore any real music, these
guys would be the band to see. There is certainly a lot of room for
improvement, but on the better side, the lead singer's voice wasn't bad, and the
drummer seemed to have his act together. Overall, I'd only see this band
again if they played with someone else I really liked.
Claiming Nothing
Another local act who took the stage after Something Unlike Human and these high
schoolers put on the best show I've ever seen from them. They made the commentduring the set that they were missing a guitarist who had quit, but the musicwas still lacking absolutely nothing.
They played their own brand of Pop Punk. Their songs had very original guitar
rifts and were well put together. As far as the vocals go, they were better
than some of the national acts who come and play live shows. The stage show
was lacking a little bit other than the guitarist flipping his guitar around
his body using the guitar strap. I fully intend to go see these guys play
again when I get a chance.
The F-Ups
The crowd all of a sudden showed up for this regional turned national band. As
they opened up, the crowd didn't do much more than the typical bobbing heads.
The lead singer put a very quick stop to that, asking the crowd to move around
more, and the pit opened up. He would also proceed to mock the crowd after not
singing along with the repetitive song "I Don't Know."
They played a relatively short set, but they hit all of the songs that the crowd
was expecting to hear. They also put on a wonderful stage show, making sure to
be interactive with the crowd, but also realizing when it's time to shut up and
play.
They silenced the people who would chant for an encore in this hot venue by the
drummer jumping over his drum set, taking half of it out. Either way, if you
like The F-Ups, sorta like The F-Ups, or don't know who they are, I would
definitely recommend going to see them in concert; they'll make the show worth
your money.
