It's been a couple years since Home Grown has graced us with their album "Kings
of Pop" so fans have anxiously been awaiting the release of their EP "When It
All Comes Down." Well, the waiting period is finally over, and it's released.
As with any band, part of the waiting is wondering if you're going to be let
down by your beloved band. Fans certainly won't be let down with this album.
From the beginning, Home Grown is sure to impress listeners with this release.
The songs are all very catchy, definitely something that you could listen to
over and over again without getting sick of it. The EP starts off with the
song called "Keep Your Distance", which from the get go sounds like a song
directly off of the radio.
The next song "Cross My Heart" takes a cliche phrase and makes it seem
original and the song, while not exactly a few songs might just make you listen to
it a second time before you move on to the next one.
The album then moves on to "I Was Right About This." This song does what pop punk does so often: it takes sad lyrics, puts them to a happy sound. The
vocals are passionate as the singer explores his insecurities about how his
relationship won't work, because he's not good enough.
After that comes my favorite song out of all of them. It's called "Midnite
City Sky" and has lyrics superior to many of their pop-punk peers. The catchy
beat almost disguises the lyrics, and I had to take a look at them to realize
how good they are. Home Grown is definitely displaying an ability to write
excellent songs.
They move on from the love-struck lyrics to their next song called "I Win,
You Lose." This song displays an angry side of the band as he tells the subject
of the song to just leave him alone and that he doesn't really care. They do
it in great fashion, with yet another song you just want to turn up and sing
along with as loud as you can.
The final song on this EP is called "What Would Love Do Now", and it returns
the band to the victim of lost love. This is yet another song with superior
lyrics and a great sound, leaving you wanting more.
Overall I give it 4.5 out of 5. This is definitely something that I advise
checking out. It is more serious than you'd expect from Home Grown, but they do it in great fashion. Almost every song on here has the potential to be a
hit. The only disappointment: it's not a full length album and will certainly
leave listeners craving more of their sound.
