The Homeschoolers
This is the first band that I was able to see. I missed Sold Separately’s
entire set. These guys were pretty unique. They seemed to crowd the stage, as
they had a total of 5 members, which is more than normal, especially in this
venue. Musically they weren’t all that great. The music often seemed
unorganized and like it didn’t fit together. As far as the stage show that
they put on, they acted as if they were huge rock stars on stage, but it turned
out looking really cool. One of the highlights of the show that they put on was
that at one point a guy asked who liked ska and a trumpet player came up on
stage and they played a ska song. Even though the music wasn’t the best, I’d
still recommend going and seeing them for the show that they put on.
Start From Scratch
This regional band took the stage and it was pretty obvious that they were older
and more musically advanced than the previous band. Their music was excellent
and the crowd reacted accordingly. The music was fast, catchy, and fun to
listen to. While they didn’t quite put on the stage show that the Homeschoolers put on, they were still very comfortable on stage, and it didn’t feel that anything was missing at all. I would definitely recommend checking them out; you won’t be disappointed.
Lucky Boys Confusion
After a short set change, the anticipation was finally over, and Lucky Boys
Confusion took the stage. They started out playing a few of the songs off of
their newer CD and asked if it’d be okay if they played some older stuff. The
crowd reacted positively to everything that they played. The unfamiliar listener would walk out with the impression that their music is considerably heavier than it is on their albums. The crowd was pretty much singing along with every song and just a little bit louder halfway through the show when they played "Fred Astaire." Their set was very long, and the heat of the venue was starting to wear on everybody, but they kept playing and kept the crowd going.
After they finished, the crowd begged for an encore, but they didn’t give it. Other than that, the show was excellent, and even if you don’t like them a whole lot, check out their show, you’ll probably like it.
