REVIEWS/The Used 01/25/05

Finding a band to tour with The Used seems to be very difficult. First it was Head Automatica. The Used doing a tour with Head Automatica? It sounded almost too good to be true. And in the end, it really was too good to be true. Head Automatica cancelled the show to much disappointment all around. But that was to be expected, of course. Every time, and that’s about three times now, when Glassjaw was supposed to do a show here, they cancelled. So I didn’t think with Head Automatica it was any different, and it wasn’t.

Then I heard some rumors about yourcodenameis:MILO coming here with them, but that wasn’t the case either. No, it turned out to be one of Holland’s most touring bands, Face Tomorrow. It’s seems then they weren’t able to find anyone else, so they got Face Tomorrow instead. Don’t get me wrong, I like seeing them live but I would’ve preferred Head Automatica or yourcodenameis:MILO any day. It’s not every day you can see either of those bands.

I didn’t like the show as much as their other shows I’ve been to. First of all, they only had about 1/2 of 1/3 of the stage because of the two drum kits that were already there. So that didn’t improve their ability to move around stage. They didn’t get a very enthusiastic response from the crowd this time, either, even though their music was good as always. It was clear to anyone that they all were there for The Used and couldn’t wait for them to begin.

So when The Used finally came onto the stage, it seemed like everyone just went crazy. It was like everyone who was standing in the back decided all together at the same time they would rather stand in the front. You can imagine it got pretty busy up there.

They played a pretty standard show, some old songs, some new songs, some shout outs to the crowd, and then they were gone again, leaving a hot, sweaty and satisfied crowd.

About halfway into the show, Bert said "There are a lot of sexy girls in here… There are a lot of sexy boys in here..." Maybe he was trying to tell us something; maybe he was just joking. But whatever it was, he got a good laugh out of it.

For me, the show was a bit too short. I don’t know exactly how long they played, but it couldn’t have been more than an hour. But it was a good show, and Bert and co. showed that they were having a good time on stage. The crowd responded well to that. I had a great time, and the next time they come over, I’m definitely going again.
