In this short interview, we talked with Chris over the phone about the re-releasing of their previous albums "Glimpse" and "Amalgamation", touring, and Trapt's new self-titled debut. (Looking back on this interview is amazing to see how far the band has come since that day we talked with Chris, only 9 days after the release of their HUGE self-titled album.)
Hi, Chris. How are you?
Chris: Good.
What’s the band doing today? Do you have the day off, or what’s going on?
Chris: Yeah, we’ve got today off, and we have a show tomorrow.
Cool. You are currently touring the states. How’s that been going?
Chris: Pretty good. We just played Sacramento last Friday, and our next show is on Monday, so it’s pretty cool.
Alright. So the tour wraps up on December 17th with Disturbed?
Chris: We might have some shows after that, on December 22nd or 23rd. We have some shows being added on now.
So are you excited about that?
Chris: Yeah, totally. It’s crazy.
I was talking to some of your fans on your message board from places like the UK, Australia, Japan, etc. Have you given any thought to a world tour anytime soon, or are you guys ready for a break?
Chris: Yeah, that’s the plan. We’re just trying to get everything going in the US and then move on to every country after that. It’s pretty spread out, too. The easiest outlet right now is obviously the internet, but as far as all the other countries, it’s all pretty spread out. They have the same amount of people there.
Cool. All right, I wanted to talk about your albums. You’ve had Amalgamation and Glimpse, and now your self-titled debut ‘Trapt.’ Are you ever planning on releasing Amalgamation or Glimpse again to the fans?
Chris: Yeah, definitely. When the time’s right we’ll definitely get that out.
I heard something about a contest maybe going on trying to get rid of those or something with that sometime soon?
Chris: Yeah, with the internet, trying.
I know you guys have been selling your debut album on your site... So, for $11.99 you get the CD, plus free shipping, and an autographed CD insert. Who decided on that?
Chris: I had an idea just to make sure to get a bunch of CD’s signed to get people excited on the road and on the internet and stuff. A lot of bands did it so we thought it was a good idea. Then we thought we should have the CD be for sale before it actually gets to stores. It’s the first time it’s ever been done like that.
That’s cool. How much longer are you going to keep doing that? Is that going to be done pretty soon?
Chris: I think it’s 1000. Then after that it’ll be done. It’s pretty limited.
Well, the CD’s only been out for what? Nine days or so? Have you heard any word on how the sales are going?
Chris: Yeah, it’s doing real well. It’s doing good. We’re excited about that.
Yeah, we’ve been hearing ‘Headstrong’ a lot on the radio. We heard it a bunch of times today. It was great.
Chris: Where are you right now?
In Iowa. Yeah, little Iowa.
Chris: Iowa? Oh, cool. Yeah, they’ve been playing it for a while, but they’re playing it more now.
What was it like to hear ‘Headstrong’ on the radio for the first time?
Chris: I heard it in Chico. I’ve only heard it once. I went out in the car to see what it would sound like. It was pretty cool.
‘Headstrong’ sends the message that you are going to listen to yourselves and no one else which brings me to the next question. There’s been a lot of controversy lately surrounding record labels, and I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, but not too long ago Dry Cell was having some problems with Warner Brothers Records and they ended up splitting with the label. What’s your experience with Warner Brothers been like so far?
Chris: Really good. They’re really supportive and they let us do our own thing, and they let us write the record we wanted to write. They didn’t come in there and try to make us do one thing or another. We wrote the record. We had the songs written, and they were confident that we knew what we were doing. The guys came one day out of the recording session and just, like, checked it out. I was like “wow.” It was better than I thought. It’s really nice. We’re getting some good promotion and then in January they’re going to kick it in even harder. We’re doing really good considering we’re going up against a lot of big acts right now. This is the fourth quarter and all that, you know. We’re doing pretty good. It’s cool.
Yeah. We wanted it wrap it up with a few questions from some fans on your message board. One wanted to know, if you could go on any tour, with what bands would you choose, and why?
Chris: I’d say Incubus would be a great tour just because they are a great band, they’ve been a great influence us like in their early days. That would be awesome. Blindside and The Used would be cool, you know. They’re good bands. It would be cool, yeah.
All right, here’s another one from a fan. If you could do any collaboration with any band, what band would you choose?
Chris: I don’t know.
Any bands you’ve been on tour with possibly?
Chris: The only band we’ve ever been on tour with really is One Side Zero. I’d pretty much do a collaboration with anyone, any bands if they wanted me. I’m not really looking at any one band to do anything with, like, do songs with. I’m pretty much open to whatever.
Alright. Cool. Well, I think that about wraps it up for us. Any words of wisdom that you want to pass on?
Chris: People should just follow their dreams and don’t let anyone comprimise that dream by telling you which way they want you to go in your life. Make your own choices and stuff like that instead of letting other people tell you what to do.
That’s about it for us. Thanks for doing this.
Chris: All right, thanks. Bye.
